I use Workstation Pro 12 for all my VM's.

I'm running the latest integrated drivers for my machine, the Intel 630 HD. Remove W10 Hi-DPI fix in case that was causing scaling issues, however, it still didn't fix the issue.

Upgrading the VM from Workstation 9.0 to 12.0 in case there were high-dpi fixes added, no dice.Ĭhanging from 1080p to UHD when the VM was still on, also a black screen.

Setting guest resolution mode to stretch, left it with wierd black bars so I changed it back to autofitįorcing the VM to detect my laptop as a machine with 1 monitor on the UHD resolution, same result, black screen with just a cursor. Same story, no more then the maximum resolution of 2560 x 1920. The maximum resolution is 2560 x 1920.īooting the VM from the recovery disk into safe mode while my laptop was in 4K. However, when I change my own laptop to use 1080p instead of the 4K option, it works just fine!Įdit the VMX to allow more VRAM and add a higher max resolution, didn't work, and the resolutions aren't selectable within the VM it's OS. I can move the cursor, but not do anything since I can't see anything. Whenever I launch my Windows Server VM whilst my own laptop has its resolution set to 4K, it shows the VMWare POST, the 4 squares indicating it is loading, and then a extremely small white cursor on a black wallpaper.

However, VMware doesn't want to play nicely with it. Now, my new laptop has arrived and its sporting a gorgeous 4K screen and awesome colors. I made all my VM's on a laptop with a 1080p screen with older hardware.
